Review: Focus on Radford Virginia - The Book Worm

Have you ever been to down town Radford Virginia. Most of Radford is taken up by Radford University and the beautiful campus... But just off from the campus there is an adorable set of shops. If you travel along main st. You could find food, entertainment, a new pet, or get your hair done (Among many other things.) One place that I can be found is in a little shop almost in the middle, near the theater and just down from the pet shop.

The Book Worm. There is an air in The Book Worm that you will never find in any other book shop. Books here are New, Used, Traded, Sold... But most of all, they are loved.

The Shop owner, Suzanne can help you find books that you might be interested based off of other books that you like. She can suggest her favorites, or you can just browse on your own. You will find books of all shapes, sizes, types, ages, and little treasures of books tucked away in the shelf. Or, if you cannot find what you are looking for, Suzanne can find it for you and order it into the shop! If you love reading, you will love The Book Worm!

I shouldn't forget to add that The Book Worm currently Sells drinks (Hopefully one day soon, more then that). Water, soda, tea, coffee, etc. (Suzanne makes them very good) AND there is free Wi-fi for you to do your web surfing (Don't get the books wet! ;) ) or read blogs that you enjoy.

While you are at the book worm, don't forget to take a moment to relax from what ever rush you could be in... if you do, you might hear the bells of faeries in the back room ;) ... or maybe that is just the laughter of children, who knows.

All I can say is that The Book Worm is my favorite place to visit in down town Radford!

Review: Applebees - Radford Virginia April 7th, 2011.

My partner and I were driving around this evening and my partner started to crave a steak. There was an Applebees near by that we decided to stop at.

We walked in and waited.. there was no one around, the waiters/waitresses, manager, host... everyone was off chatting and not paying attention to the front of the restaurant. We waited approximately five minutes before someone finally came to seat us (In the almost empty restaurant!)

We sat at our table for quite a while before someone came and told us "someone else is your server, but i'll get your drinks" My partner ordered a pepsi and I ordered a Kiwi Lemonaid (Which came out too syrupy.) Our server finally approached the table 10 minutes after we got our drinks.

We were pretty cheerful at this point, didn't really care that the service was lacking a little.

We ended up ordering a 2 for 20 deal. We ordered the queso blanco chips and dip appetizer. My partner ordered a RARE steak, and I ordered the 3 cheese penne.

When the Waitress repeated the order back to us she said "Medium well stake". My partner corrected her, "No, I asked for a rare steak." She nodded, not writing anything down and walking off.

The appetizer took a good 25 minutes to make its way to the table. It was decent, even with stale chips, but not as good as we previously had at a different location. We were still feeling pretty good... until our meal came another 25-30 minutes later. My partners steak was Medium well. Slightly frustrated, we sent the steak back and were told that a manager was taking care of it.

While we were waiting for my partners steak to return, we both tried my meal. My partner thought that it was okay, but really wanted that steak. I didn't really like it very much, but I figured that it was because I had ordered something new.

We waited over half-an-hour for the steak to come back, we even asked how long it would be after the first 25 minutes.

The Manager brought the steak back out. . . It was brown. This one was MEDIUM. My partner ended up eating it anyway, very disappointed and just ready to go home.

When the server came back to check up on us, we asked for boxes, waited 10 minutes for them, and had to wait another 20 for the check.

By this time I was over my limit in frustration and feeling very not-so-nice. Our waitress got a dirty penny as a tip. As well as a hand written note to her manager.

We repeated this story to friends in the area, and they all shared similar stories of bad service and not so great food.

The Radford Virginia Applebees is not a place I would suggest if you want a good meal. There are many other options in the area with better service, and even better food.

1/5 *.

(Update: the second stake was bad and gave my partner food poisoning!)
